Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Gil Go!

Jeanette on Feb 1st 2009

The Sagunto Star and the collective Sagunto community would like to  extend their best wishes to the newly weds, Mr. and Mrs. Gil Go (nee: Gay Anne E. Quilaman) whose wedding took place at the Paradiso Resort Samara, Aringay, La Union on the 6th of January 2009.

The Paradiso Resort was truly a romantic venue to begin wedded life. The couple stayed on at the resort after the wedding, enjoying the peacefulness and nature, for their honeymoon. They have since returned to Macau where they both work. They have shared the following photos of their blessed celebration witnessed by their principal sponsors, relatives, family friends and acquaintances. The ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Judge Benjamin E. Almazan.

Dwaya

Jeanette on Apr 25th 2007

Before there was rap, there was the dwaya. This is one of the old Sagunto wedding traditions that I was glad to see still being practiced. Dwaya literally means lullaby. The ritual is performed by the elders from each of the bride and groom’s family; they rock the monetary gifts to sleep along with their well wishes for the bride and groom. This is our Uncle Boy Pascua, who I didn’t realize was so talented. Hehe! You have to realize that these are all extemporaneous, which, for a slow thinker like me, is just amazing.

Please add your thoughts/memories of this ritual in the comments section.
