Tumayaw Village is a development to promote ethnic pride among the Banayoyo people while also providing them with the means to prosper and perpetuate the heritage of its people.

Indigenous tribes are not immune to the enroaching influence of technology and modernization on tribal customs and traditions. In fact, they may actually even be the most vulnerable as the old ways are eroded among the younger generations. The Banayoyo were no exception.
The wealth of the Banayoyo is its humble and hard working people and its rich traditions and customs. Before Banayoyo becomes another casualty of ‘civilization’, the local and provinical administration, headed by Governor DV Savellano, conceptuatulized a village where tourists can visit to learn more about the tribe while also providing a livelihood for the villagers.

The plan for Tumayaw Village is for it to be a living, breathing community of artisans who will preserve the tribe’s arts and crafts, customs and traditions for future generations. The village will also be a part of a sanctuary to preserve the Banayoyo homeland while also showcasing the wildlife and surrounding environment.

Pride in their unique heritage is something that must be encouraged among the younger generations but is not always an easy task. This village is but a small step in that direction as explained by Bliss Castillo, project coordinator for Tumayaw Village, in the video below.
