Subject: Pangkabuhayan Project: “BACKYARD GARDENING”

Barangay Artacho residents generate their income chiefly on house rentals, construction jobs, professional/non-professional employments, and small scale businesses. However, a few are indulged to agriculture.

A large amount of their present earnings is expended on food consumption that with the price hike that strikes uncontrollably and predominantly affecting mostly the basic commodities like vegetables and other market goods, other family priority needs are often neglected. In a bid to curb this common crisis, we launched this Pangkabuhayan Project: “BACKYARD GARDENING”, to help improve the living condition of the populace. This helps eventually in producing fresh and organically grown vegetables into every table and simultaneously helps in the cleanliness drive that is initiated by the government.

To initiate the program, we have incorporated herein Implementing Guidelines, Program of Work, and Materials Needed.

IMPLEMENTING GUIDELINES:

1. An general assembly will be called for information dissemination;
2. Assessment of all available / idle backyards for measurements of plant areas necessary for budget allocations;
3. Assessment of all consolidated plant areas necessary in determining the corresponding vegetables to be planted; and
4. Determine the materials needed and financial allocation to enforce the program.

 

PROGRAM OF WORK:

1. A common nursery shall be constructed;
2. A weekly seminar for three consecutive weeks related to organic farming shall be conducted;
3. Supervision in the preparation of planting areas;
4. Education to those who have no land to plant by introducing to them recyclable materials for gardening;
5. Education on how to make organic materials and their application; and
6. A common area for planting shall be established for hands-on training in vegetable gardening.

 

MATERIALS NEEDED: (Computation is based on five thousand sq. mts.)

1. 30 bags of organic fertilizer (50 kgs each)
2. 5 bags of Complete fertilizer (50 kgs each) 14-14-14
3. 4 bags of Urea fertilizer (50 kgs each) 16-20-0
4. 1 bag Calcium Nitrate (50 kgs)
5. Foliar fertilizer (2 kg) vegetative fruit developer
6. Seedling trays (50 pcs)
7. Assorted vegetable seeds (pinakbet selection)
8. Insecticides (1 liter), fungicides (1 kilo)
9. Climbing sticks

10. Bamboo poles

11. Nets (green or black color for the nursery)

12. Manures (chicken dung, cow, carabao, goat, or pig)

13. Composted materials (bundles of hay, leaves, fruits, vegetables, etc…)

14. Recyclable materials for gardening (cans, sacks, plastic cups, containers, drums, etc…)
