After the disastrous flooding in Sison last year, the newly elected Congresswoman Kimi Cojuangco has made it a priority to avert a similar disaster from happening again. She visited the Bued River Dike and the Agno floodway in Alcala to assess their integrity. She was disappointed to find out that the construction were below par and will not withstand another calamitous event.

This is a commendable effort our new congresswoman is spearheading. Prioritizing on the safety and security not only on the lives of our citizens but also on infrastructure projects that affect their livelihood must top every district’s concern.
Our bigger government actually has long forgotten this important aspect of development. Funding for bridge renovations, river banks and irrigation always do not gain attention especially of the higher ups. It would need calamities for our leaders to realize the great need and another crisis that hooks international attention.
Hearing P-noy’s government plan to scrap pork barrels to local governments, I am more than worried how we could ever complete long-range plans that could solve the perennial headaches of our local citizens, farmers, and businessmen alike. Would we continue to have a day-to-day existence and struggle to survive every typhoon in every year in our lives? It’s so convenient to live in a rich and advanced country that prioritizes all these, but …

There is a new video of Congresswoman Kimi at the Congress delivering a speech about the flood-control projects that got stalled. Can we also post that video here so that we could share to all Sisonians updates on this issue? It was wonderful for our Congresswoman to stress the necessity of fast-tracking the projects before it\’s too late, at rainy season again cripple and endanger our province. We have to avoid another disaster not only in Pangasinan but also in the other flood-prone areas. The DPWH has to be moved and convinced of the urgency of this matter.
