Online newsletter for the citizens of Sagunto, Sison, Pangasinan, Philippines
Congressman Mark O. Cojuangco is a man of many passions. When he decides to advocate a cause, he pursues it relentlessly and takes it to heart. That’s how he is with the many initiatives he’s created to benefit the constituents in his district in Pangasinan.
As his term in congress nears its end, the congressman was still tirelessly lobbying to get his bill regarding the recommissioning of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) passed.
Whether you agree with the congressman’s vision of recommissioning the BNPP or not, his persistent advocacy and dogged determination is admirable; his passion beyond compare of the run of the mill politician. You can see how he literally takes these interests to heart as he is emotionally overcome by the failure of his bill to pass.
Pangasinan’s 5th district has been lucky to have him represent their interests in Congress. So to the outgoing Congressman, we express a heartfelt THANK YOU for a service well done. I doubt that many will argue that you left your district in a better state than you found it.

Oh no, this is really saddening. We understand and feel the same passions…The Congressman really needs some time to rest and relax as his struggle and advocacy in the past years with numerous projects no one can probably count, have enervated his strength to finally succumb to near exhaustion. We are aware and deeply touched too at how our congressman toiled to search for better solutions to our growing energy needs, and as a politician and businessman, he weighed options and could have fought hard for what he believed was best. But…this should not be the end.
Indeed, his moves and proposals were met by various obstacles and oppositions, but what is clear is that, his ardent determination to help, to grow, to build and to solve problems are but tied to his guiding principles, although their merits may not have been fully realized yet. Dilemmas like that of our congressman’s could be very hard to fathom…Who said it’s easy to govern and rule? There are other means and chances where his dedication to serve the people could be manifested…still too many opportunities waiting to usher citizens to grow and be productive. He needs time to recuperate from some frustrations…and his people, not far from where he comes home to, are just waiting to shower him new energy of hope and strength…There is no stop to serving the people…and the congressman is addicted to helping, you bet. Be a leader, so you’d know
Cheer up, our leader. That is just one challenge.
The Congressman must know that what count most to people are a leader’s undying march to fulfill his mission; his championing of the causes of people, big and small; his sincerity to improve mistakes, and his efforts to complete his goals inspired by the local people. Now you are ending your role as a congressman, so you will be with us fulltime, to shower our town with more greens and shines.
Congratulations for all your unselfish acts and generous service to your people!

I agree with your assessment, Emz. I, too, am sad to hear that our dear congressman had this close call on the floor. Scary. It has to be frustrating for him to have to deal with the usual political games that they play in congress—but he shouldn’t take it to the point of affecting his health. My goodness!
He doesn’t need that kind of BS from other elected officials but he puts up with it because he has a vision to empower and improve the people. Like Nette said, whether you agree or not, you have to admire Congressman Cojuangco’s tenacity and determination. I hope he’s resting so he can fight another day.
My prayers and well wishes for Congressman Cojuangco and also to Mayor Kimi (who I’m sure is shaken up by this event).
