Online newsletter for the citizens of Sagunto, Sison, Pangasinan, Philippines
Sison braces for another typhoon, predicted to race through the region today, dumping more rain on the already drenched landscape. Pray for our town, our family and friends. While the storm pass through, they will need our help more than ever.
The video below was produced by the Mayor’s office to appeal to the citizens of Sison, wherever you are, to please help your townmates, family and friends. The farmers of Sison were especially hard hit. The crops that they had cultivated this year, including rice that was almost ready for harvest and vegetables slated for upscale markets and the new pasalubong center were all wiped out by Typhoon Pepeng. They will not be able to recover their loses on their own. The Congressman and the Mayor are lobbying the government earnestly for relief, but more help is needed; especially help that is earmarked specifically for the farmers. 1,200 PHP can fund the rehabilitation of one hectare of farm land. Send what you can for every little bit helps.

This is a great start to help the farmers in their recovery. I salute the Mayor for starting this fund raising that will directly aid the individual farmers. The 3 deadly storms that has wreaked havoc in the agricultural plans of our poor farmers is really a major hurdle to overcome but with the bayanihan spirit of our people abroad and can-do attitude of the people in Sison, we can dig our way out of this calamity.
Who will join me in pledging assistance to the farmers?
Thanks Babot for your always positive response and for leading every call from our needy people. We all should share what we can, no matter how small, right? It is easy to pledge for now, so I am pledging a little too. When to give this pledge as it is not yet earned yet (ouch again!) is another matter. I will start sending a bit for family first, then share whatever small leftover to our farmers group via the Town initiative. Come on, people, just start pledging. That intention to help could make wonders even to your own savings. OK, GTG…lots of work to do. Buti si Lupit, nahagupit ng mga prayers…lumayo na sya. Back to the farm. Cold season is fast approaching needing big supply of food.Let’s make land turn into gold.
Thanks Ems for your pledge
I know that some are probably thinking of the cost to send the money. It almost isn’t worth it to send $25 to fund a farmer when you have to pay whatever fee to transfer.
So here’s the deal for US residents who want to donate to fund a farmer. Make your pledge on this site, mail me your checks and at the end of November I’ll tally all donated funds and wire the money from all of us.
Your names or the name of your organization and the number of hectares funded will be listed on our site. If your organization (Sisonians for San Diego, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, etc., ) want to send the funds directly to the Mayors Office, let me know, too, so we can acknowledge the generosity on our site.
Let me know what you think…
