The Story of the Old Man and the Even Older Tree

June 20th, 20090 Comments

Who doesn’t love a good story? Saguntonians are certainly known for their love of a good tale that, with each retelling can grow into epic proportions. Told often enough, it becomes woven into the fabric of the many myths and legends that comprise the life of Sagunto.

One such story holds the promise of being woven into that tapestry; that of the old man and the century old tree. The story is true, it’s on the Sison website, in two parts. It’s not a fairy tale exactly, but it has the makings of one.

Just beyond the gates of Pindangan Elementary school stood a hundred year old tree that has died a long time ago. Mayor Kimi gave instructions to cut down the tree at the request of school officials who wanted to clean up and beautify the school grounds.

It wasn’t long before stories about the tree seeped out and even the man in charge, Domeng, started to blur the lines between what is real and what is myth.

If you like a good story, read the story of the old man who waited for the gold inside the tree:
