Sagunto Agriculture

February 16th, 20085 Comments

PhotobucketSagunto is bustling with activities as usual, but these days various projects are propelled by our honorable Mayor Kimi’s vision. On the agricultural front, farmers are gearing up to supply the mayor’s campaign to make Sison a major supplier of vegetables and pink lady papayas. Satellite markets are being planned to market Sison’s products to Sisonians and neighboring towns. These markets will also encourage travelers to stop and buy Sison’s products, taking the fruits of Sison beyond its boundaries.

Saguntonians are positioned well to take advantage of these initiatives. Cherry tomatoes and red lady papayas are only a couple of the vegetables and fruits being tested in our farms for market.

Yummmm! My girls love those cherry tomatoes, we haven’t tasted the Red Lady papaya yet but can’t wait to do so….keep up the good work guys! Agri-business is a global hot-topic, I’m glad we’re involved :-)

“Let us never forget that the cultivation of the earth is the most important labor of man. Man may be civilized in some degree without great progress in manufactures and with little commerce with his distant neighbors. But without the cultivation of the earth, he is, in all countries, a savage. Until he gives up the chase and fixes himself in some place, and seeks a living from the earth, he is a roaming barbarian. When tillage begins, other arts follow. The farmers, therefore, are the founders of civilization.”

Nagpukaw lang dyay inpost ko the other day. Timmayab sa idiay payas, naiyanod. I’m typing this again….

I now have a chance to post the results of our survey on the Bago Farmers ( Just random samplings from Sagunto, Asan Sur, Asan Norte, Sta Maria and Macoco) within our adjoining farming communities conducted last December to January. It’s interesting to note that we still have many concerned to improve and develop our Agricultural resources in Sison. I thought it’s already a dying culture. There is still some life, so let us continue watering that hope so together, we offer upliftment to our beloved communities. With lots of encouragement from the DA and the Sison Admin, we spread the interest to till the land again for ANG GINTO AY NASA LUPA. Some 25 respondents shared their valued ideas suggesting that people concerned consider the following points reflective of the current situation in our town today:

    1. UNEMPLOYMENT (17 out of 25 respondents see this as main problem for poverty in Sison)
    2. Lack of Agricultural KNow-how/Technology/ Effective Crops Production (lately only19 cavans of palay per hectare is the average crop yield= only 8 sacks of rice in one year!)
    3. Water Resources (No rain, no crops)
    4. Not totally-free education ( with this very little income per year, a family of five has to pay 700 pesos misc. fee a year for every child, excluding many other basic school needs)
    5. Low Literacy Rate ( Many are drop-outs who then can’t find good jobs around)
    6. Lack of Market for their products
    7. Lack of Capital/ Lack of No-interest Loans (5-6! When are angels going to come who will not wrench the necks of these little biz people, earning a little just to pay off loan interest?

These are just a few of the many things they want our attention focused to. HEY GUYS, POUR OUT YOUR THOUGHTS. WHAT CAN YOU SUGGEST TO HELP EASE THEIR BURDENS?

Meantime, isagana yon dagita savings yo ta gumatang kayo ti laklako dagita kabaryoan tayo, saan kay rumuaren, ken saan yon nga barat-en, bwahahaha! Bawal na po ang barat sa mga may pera, okay? Ehlites, anong 500 pesos? for duwwa nga kalding?

Hey ituloy tay man ngarud dayta AUCTION TI GOATS AND OTHER ANIMALS INTON DECEMBER. I’LL PUSH THE FARMERS TO INITIATE IT. PHILIP AND OTHERS, WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.

hahahah! dorcas SFAL , ehlites was just kidding. agtawtawar laeng isuna para 2 kalding. 500 kano ti bid na, hehe. kukod lang dayta ehlites. when i bought two last year, one from sta. maria, and one from my relatives, 2,500 to 4000k each for the regular size! don’t you know nga ti kaiyananak ket 800 pesos na? a baby kid with special breed is 4000k daw. breeder kasi. pano na pag lumaki yan. well, for me, i like the native kind, at least naraman ken 2500 to 4000k pesos lang. that’s what you should save for. naimas ti kilawen, ahhhhh!

i’ve just told them to start growing goat kids now, but even those small ones are hard to find. they need to let female goats produce babies. but anyway, this should be a good start now.

next week, they will start transplanting the plant seedlings to the lab lot of the farmers. thanks to the Sumalnaps for lending their lot for the tech teaching of the farmers. Keep up farmer leaders. kahit unti-unti, in the end, some progress na rin.
