Happy Anniversary, SAGUNTO Star!!
Jeanette on Feb 22nd 2008
FROM JEANETTE:
One year ago, I received an email and it simply said, “Nette can you create a blog for Sagunto?”. That was from sister Babot who was in Sagunto to take care of some business for a few days. I had a rough version of the Sagunto Barangay blog within a few minutes, but it didn’t have anything on it aside from the perfunctory posts to get it started. So while waiting for the barangay council to make use of their new online presence, I decided to make a sub-section called Sagunto Images to post pictures on. Then as Eva and Emz and other kailyans found the site, it slowly evolved into a place where we could have some fun, look at photos and find our other friends, Saguntonians and Sisonians whom we hadn’t seen or communicated with in a long time.
With the renewed interest in Sagunto and while reconnecting with old friends, we un-earthed old copies of the Sagunto Star which then inspired us to re-name the site Sagunto Star and altered the format from a photo sharing blog to one with a touch of the old newsletter. After a few months, I decided that the Sagunto Star deserves a home of its own so I purchased a domain to house this version of the Sagunto Newsletter.
With this new forum for communicating with each other, we discovered that not only can we collectively reminisce about the place we love, we can also help with various projects to improve Sagunto. That’s when we started announcing the requests from organizations that need donations. Saguntonians opened up their hearts and their wallets and have since contributed to the success of several initiatives in the barangay. We hope to continue what we’ve started and help our bario become the most successful in Sison.
We thank all of you who made this site what it is now by your participation, your contribution and our common love for our hometown, Sagunto. Happy Anniversary, Stars of Sagunto!
~Jeanette
FROM EVA:
Time flies so fast and here we are celebrating the first annual Anniversary of our Online Sagunto Star. Its nice for me to recall what happened before I become a part of this first and official SS online thanks to Mae and Sherry Jo they are the instruments that I got connected with Jeanette and Ophelia Grace then to Jimena Emily such a great days for me while am away from home and my family we started with the Sagunto Barangay Council blog and finally did this chikahan ti taga Sagunto or we fondly call it ABONG.
Sagunto Star is a place to go if we needed to ask information or simply saying “hi” “hello” or if you want somebody to talk to so wonderful meeting and sharing what life hath done to every individual its been a long way now lots of things happened but SS remained as is to all our regular friends, visitors, all Saguntonians all over the globe you all played a role in the continuing purpose and Ministry of this site that the Bongog-Pasibe Sisters install and maintained it and just for their LOVE to our Tribe. Thanks for the inspiration of the Original SS Editor Mr. Bernardo Castillo hope that he can visit us one day.
Sis Emz, Bot Nette and all our contributors its hard to name you all one by one I might forget or miss some names but you know by heart if you are one this is OUR Site!!! we did it and let us continue our task !
Long Live Sagunto Star we are all Superstars!

FROM EMILY:
Happy Anniversary Sagunto Star! Thank God , You are born! Probably, this is the most effective means to get connected to every Saguntonian and Sisonian we know, used to know, and will be knowing in the future. How lucky we are now endowed with high-technology of seeing our thoughts fly and get heard in an instant. But the real essence of all these advantages is the chance to reach out to so many people who need us emotionally, socially, spiritually, economically , culturally, educationally…the list goes on. Indeed, SaguntoStar attempts to cover more than just socialization. I just admire the team-up of the organizers (ahem!) for concocting good chemistry with fun and involvement. I have never become proud of my roots than now. Together, let us celebrate all these initiatives that would hopefully last et eternum. Blow the trumpets!
Jimena Emily Benosa-Homma
FROM BABOT:
Who would have thought that so much could be done in 12 months time? When I went back to the Philippines and landed in MIA on February 14th, 2007 I had one mission…to assist my mom with some issues involving the management of land that she inherited from her father and her grand-father. This land in Sagunto has always held a special place in our hearts for it is here that we spent many a childhood vacations and even lived there for close to a year prior to our immigration to the States. During my whirlwind 4 days visit in 2007, it was enough for me to glimpse the needs of the people and our old Barangay. The first idea that struck me was the need to interconnect the locals with the Saguntonians living abroad in order to facilitate communication via the broadband world of the internet. It took some convincing to get the Barangay council to “buy into” the idea of their own official internet site. Some were wary or suspicious and some just not convinced that it was needed. But with help in mediating/convincing from Loejan Anudon and much consternation by the council, my sister Jeanette and I were allowed to open the doors to Sagunto. No more snail mail. No more waiting for a balikbayan to take a letter back to relatives. Communication would be instantaneous. Or so we thought…my sister and I thought that an official web site FOR the council should be run BY the council; ergo, we created the Sagunto Star on-line newsletter to serve as the “Tambayan” where kith and kin can catch-up with recent events.
It is a far-cry from the early days when we were so excited to have found Emily Benosa Homma in Japan and the serendipitous email meeting with Eva Santillano Eisma of Canada. It was in the Sagunto Star where we four would chat and catch-up (we didn’t have the chat room then J ). From there we were found by Adolf and Jeff Estoesta, Xander Esteban, Roselee Barillo Macaalay, Romelia Casco, Ferdie and Jerry Santillano and so on and so on and so on. Within the past year we have shared births, deaths, birthdays and other celebrations. We have also shared strife, misunderstandings, corrections to misconceptions. We learned to coexist, forgive, move on. We’ve invited and welcomed our fellow Sisonians to join us in our virtual “abong”. We have also watched the election of a new Mayor with great apprehension, suspense and suspicion only to be completely surprised once we learn of her plans, her vision, her mission. Since then, we’ve embraced and supported Mayor Kimi Cojuangco AND each other. We can collectively visualize improvements. We can AND have seen the results of our small efforts as a group. All these we’ve done together in 12 months. Imagine what we can do in another year!
The founder of Mary Kay cosmetics once said, ” We must have a theme, a goal, a purpose in our lives. If you don’t know where you’re aiming, you don’t have a goal. My goal is to live my life in such a way that when I die, someone can say, she cared.” And another quote that I love from Alvin Toffler, “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.” Life is a learning process and I’m an avid student. So on this 1st year anniversary of the Sagunto Star, I wish to thank all of you for your readership and participation in making a difference in our world, we hope that we’ve made a difference in yours.
All my love to you,
Babot

i am one of am sure lots of other individuals who really is greatful for the building of ’sagunto star’. it paved the way in communicating with each other and made us able to express our so much “ILIW” to our friends, loveones, and kabaryoans. it also had given us the opportunity to send support financially, spiritually, and emotionally to those who are in such needs…specially to our beloved barangay sagunto itself.
from canada with great pride and pleasure, i give my heartly appreciation to those very commited, generous, loving, and never tiring concerned individuals who were responsible in making this site a succesful one.
congratulations to everyone and have a good first year anniversary.

OUR NEED FOR APPROVAL AND ACCEPTANCE SHOULD BE FOUND IN THE SITUATION I AM IN,FIDING APPROVAL AND ACCEPTANCE FROM GOD AND FROM ONE ANOTHER.THE CHURCH IS THE SCHOOL FOR LIFE,AND IT IS BY BEING FAITHFUL TO GOD IN THE SMALL THINGS OF EVERYDAY LIFE,AND FAITHFUL TO ONE ANOTHER IN A ORDINARY EVERYDAY EVENTS OF LIFE THAT WE THEN FIND WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.WE SHOULD BE A PLACE WHERE WE SUPPORT AND BUILD UP ONE ANOTHER,TO ACCEPT AND VALUE ONE ANOTHER IS ESSENTIAL TO THIS…..

Yep, like Evz said, each and every participant in Sagunto Star is as much a celebrant as the site itself. For without you, it wouldn’t mean a thing. SGAMOK, that is, indeed, a very good reminder…everyone has worth and every small acts of kindness is worth a lot. Aesop says that no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.

Congrats to Sagunto Star’s one year anniversary.
When you go over the age of 50, life’s about maintenance thereafter, hehe… But am sure SS will be maintained effectively by four decent and responsible people and there is nothing more we all can do other than to wish it more success in the years to come.
Just like what Babot said, life is a learning process and we all can learn from each other only if you are a willing student.
Cheers to all and goodhealth.
