Waaaahhhh, how touching…thanks sis, you love me :-) Thanks everyone for all your private cards/greetings/messages and friendster messages. It’s all so very sweet.

Yes, of course, the RIVER PROJECT FUNDRAISING has already started, dearest! I really want to help our Mayor Kimi to help US clean the waig. I know she has extended a helping hand and will assist us in our efforts. We cannot always have our hands out for the help, you know. The Town is still digging themselves out of a financial mess (or have we all forgotten? That’s why our poor Mayor is working so hard to get money back into the town coffers), we cannot expect her to do everything. We as Sisonians who love our rivers must pull our own weight and do all that we can to help. Let’s not just stand around waiting for her to do it for us. We have to start the river clean-up NOW.

Imagine and visualize with me a clean river with unpolluted water streaming beautifully. Do you remember when you could go down the river bed after a long hike down from the mountains…you stop to wash yourself and scoop water to your mouth. The sweet water quenches your thirst. You can look down and watch the river crabs scurrying under rocks and pebbles. You can start grabbing them until you have enough for your lunch :-) You can sit on a boulder and watch the women washing clothes and children swimming and splashing around. It was an all-day affair to do the laundry back in the days. Women would bring their lunch and picnic after the wash is done. It would be the time to catch up on news with other women folk while waiting for the clothes to dry on the rocks or shrubs. Do you have the same memories that I do?

Imagine our river if we acted NOW in cleaning it up. We can haul out all the debris that’s been dumped on its banks. We can replace them with shade trees that will provide a nice respite from the hot summer sun and at the same time coax the water to run again. We can get benches installed (donors can have their names on it :-) ) so you can sit and meditate by the river. We can clear areas for picnic tables where families can all gather and enjoy a clean, clear view of the river and mountains above. We can install hiking paths where people can stroll and exercise by the river. The river has taken care of us in the past. Now that the river is sick and in need of our help, we all must rise to make it healthy again.

Today I pledge to the Sagunto Tribal Women’s Association PH20,000 as seed money to start off this River Clean-Up campaign. Won’t you all please join me and Mayor Kimi help make our town GREENER, CLEANER and HEALTHIER for all the people to enjoy now and in the future? Don’t you want your children to enjoy what you enjoyed back when you were a child? I would like to someday bring my family home so they can see why I love it so much. So I can show them how beautiful it truly is and not just a childhood, nostalgic memories.

What a noble gesture for someone celebrating her birthday! Your nth birthday will be marked by this initiative Babot, and I hope others will follow. As my mother Pacita is also a January celebrant, I’m making her donation of 2k added to mine (3k) so that will make our Benosa-Homma Family Pledge five thousand pesos. This 5k will be for the Tribal Women’s project as they (thru Ms Nida) have spelled out their specific plans of making the river not only clean but also beautiful with flowering plants and benches, for it to look like a park for all Saguntonians. If it’s also good to make pathways on the banks for joggers, Apo, kindly try using “ricrac” , “kabite” how do you call that? There are rocks and stones around that could be used for that. No karasan tay ti waig, which should be a regular activity tapno ma maintain ti level na, mas makontrol tay ti ayos ti danum, aglalu into pangatutudo manen.

I’ve mentioned about this to Aunt Tess in London, and she said that if I’m really serious with it, then I have to support any group pushing for its accomplishment. It would be a great project if really attained. She has suggested as well, to use posters and pictures of rivers from other countries (like clean and lovely rivers in Japan) and post around the barrio to encourage people create similar scenes. I’m thinking of suggesting to the SK do this instead. If all organizations will work and form their own river project, it would be a lot easier to attain this vision. I know many of you there in UK want to help out as well, and it’s just that the solicitation letters you received in the past were not on this river purpose, but on prizes for this and that contest. I’m sure you’ll donate again soon and on certain undertakings chosen and decided by your group to support.

And in line with this greening initiatives, I’d be happy to share something too for a Seniors Club’s Medicinal/ Herbal Plants Garden showcase. (Well, you can’t expect some oldies to be carrying their rakes to the river, so they’d better plant herbs in their front yard instead). Apo, papintasen tay man met dagiti paraangan tay manen, dyay a makita ti plants and herbal medicines nga nalaka dita sango ti paraangan yo, asideg ti kalsada tapno napintas met ti magmagna agpadaya. Maiparit koma met nga agrugit dagita aso dita kalsada. (What can we do to solve this?)
These are just suggestions, but wish we revive this Green Revolution again.

I have one question for the SWTA. Who will be the workers of this river cleaning and beautification project? Would the bigger Tribal Council help? I know how hard it would be to do all these, digging, pulling, carrying, constructing, etc. so let’s be specific with the tasks. Will you be hiring workers? What stages or phases of the project do you wish to achieve at a certain period of time? This will determine your budget. Apo, kindly plan out a more detailed proposal so readers and prospective donors could see if more funds are needed.

AND YOU ARE TRULY A GREAT LEADER BABOT. HOW GREAT? WE’LL DEFINE THAT LATER. SAGUNTO IS SO LUCKY TO HAVE YOU AS A GRANDAUGHTER AND DAUGHTER. MAY YOUR TRIBE OF ABLE AMASONAS (WELL, A DOMINANT TRAIT OF OUR CLAN, RIGHT?) GROW. AS I CAN REMEMBER, JEANETTE SAID THAT IT’S YOU WHO FIRST SUGGESTED A SAGUNTO WEBSITE LIKE THIS. AND SEE IT CELEBRATING ITS ANNIVERSARY SOON RIGHT AFTER YOUR BIRTHDAY! ENJOY YOUR DAY, SISTER, AND THANK THE LORD FOR YOUR BLESSED LIFE. HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Happy birthday Mng Babot! Whatever your wishes and dreams are, we will be very grateful to be a part of its fulfillment. Adda kami laeng ditoy nga kanayon, mng.
AGBIAG NI MNG BABOT!!! GOD BLESS, I pray for your good health and more blessings for your family.

  12. Babot says:

Thanks Mayor Kimi and everyone for all the very sweet birthday greetings! I am so touched and overwhelmed with the support for the RIVER PROJECT FUNDRAISING. I have been contacted by Sisonians and others not from the town who are offering their assistance and support to help clean and beautify the river (Your envelopes are on the way :-) ). I am in awe of all who feel the same affinity to nature as I do. Your pledges and support are the best birthday presents! Thank you.

Mayor Kimi, your initiatives and “can-do” attitude is such a refreshing change for us all. You, too, have changed our perception, gained our trust and have energized us to assist you. Together “There Ain’t no Mountain High Enough…” (I love that theme, by the way. It’s so apropos!)

Judee thanks, ali ngarud ta usaren to ta sound system nga kayat yo ta agpukkaw kanto ti umay mang-tulong nga agbakwat ti batbato dyay waig ;) Ms. D! I’ve missed you at abong…thanks for your support, ding. Agpraktis ta nga ag-tadek tapno ready tan to met a makisala :-) .

Xander, you’re so right in that Sagunto is lucky to have so many of us clamoring to help the Council, the Tribal Leaders, STWA, the Seniors, the Farmers and others who need us. Every single association have ideas on how best to help; different groups have different projects in mind…we can do it all if we work together, don’t you think? We don’t have to tear each other down—we need to hold each other UP! Your dad, our Captain, will be so busy this year with organizing and coordinating projects. He’ll need all our support and we’ll need his. When we work in cooperation, understanding and unity WE CAN DO ANYTHING!
