Congressman Pledges P125K for Reyna ang Lola Ko

Jeanette on Nov 28th 2007

The update below was received from Kagawad Loejan Anudon who was present at this meeting.

“USA LOLA AND MAYOR KIMI LUNCH DATE”

The storm had passed, it was a bright sunny day, a very pleasant moment for a lunch date with the Honorable Mayor.

Mrs. Irene Malqued Florendo, USA candidate for the search For Ang Lola Kong Reyna, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on the 26th of November at about one o’clock in the morning. A day after, a lunch date was set for her, Mr. & Mrs. Willy Palitang (benefactors of Barangay Sagunto who are also retirees from the US and members of the Sagunto Organization, USA) and the Honorable Mayor.

Before the salo-salo (get together), the Honorable Mayor showed them the auditorium (where the proceeds of the search will be spent) from her office window. The food has not yet arrived so she insisted that we should all see the Senior Citizens building even though construction is still ongoing but hoping to be completed before the town fiesta. The visitors were amazed to see the grand project: huge air-conditioned conference rooms, architect designed ceilings, spacious restrooms equipped with modern fixtures, two wide kitchens, sweeping verandas and other features.

At the salo-salo table in her office reception area, superb culinary dishes were served. The Honorable Mayor, guests and members of the municipal council were in attendance. Conversation ensued and a question was raised as per observations and comments from sponsors of the candidates abroad. Mrs. Adora Palitang raised the issue concerning Congressman Conjuangco’s pledge of P125,000.00 for the local candidate. While she acknowledged that it was a generous pledge, she also pointed out that it was unfair for the other candidates. On the other hand, she praised the Honorable Mayor’s neutrality by giving equal share of P4,000.00 per candidate during the first canvassing. [Note that these were personal pledges from the Congressman and Mayor]

There was some confusion because of different interpretations of the Congressman’s pledge. The Mayor, sensing the gravity of the issue, requested to ring the Honorable Congressman through her secretary to hear his intent on the matter of the pledge to settle the issue. The Honorable Mayor was determined to resolve the issue immediately to ease the quandary among her guests.

The Honorable Congressman apologized to Mrs. Irene Florendo and Mrs. Palitang for the problem that arose from his ‘over enthusiasm during the first canvassing’, as he phrased it. He went on to explain that in the excitement of the moment, he forgot his position as Congressman and acted as a mere local resident when he pledged P125,000.00 for the local candidate. He apologized profusely for this transgression and promised to correct the problem. His stance has always been to not take back anything he has given but he did concede that he has to maintain fairness throughout the competition by setting himself as an example. While it hurt him to do so, he requested that Mrs. Burgonio, the local candidate be located and brought to this meeting. The Congressman repeatedly apologized and emphasized that this mistake was purely unintentional. It was not his intention to slight the other candidates.

The Honorable Dominador Padua was tasked to find the local candidate, Mrs. Burgonio, and bring her to the Mayor’s office to hear the Congressman’s decision. When Mrs. Burgonio and SB Member Domeng Padua arrived, the Honorable Congressman, after requesting Mrs. Burgonio’s pardon, announced that the P125,000.00 credited to Mrs. Burgonio be divided equally between all the candidates. Mrs. Burgonio very graciously accepted the Congressman’s decision and in a very pleasant mood said “wala pa naman sa akin yung pera, okay lang na kunin at paghahatian namin at kahit pa naibigay na”. A true sport.

With the Congressman’s pledge, each candidate will now receive P31,250 added to the P4,000 pledged by the Mayor, each candidate is now credited with P35,250.

The last canvassing for the Reyna ang Lola Ko will be on December 4, 2007 so you still have time to get your donations to your favorite Lola.

An additional update regarding the Reyna ang Lola Ko campaign: Both Sagunto candidates, Mrs. Irene Florendo, representing the U.S.A. and Mrs. Tessie Alboukharey, representing the U.K., have both declared through their representatives that their half of the proceeds from the Reyna ang Lola Ko campaign will be donated to the Sagunto Barangay. A win win situation for Sagunto!

Oh. WOWOWEEEE!!!! Thanks so much for the report, Kagawad Loejan! I am so pleased (and highly amused by the Honorable Congressman and his zeal to participate in the Reyna campaign, hehehe :-) …napasubo ni Apo congressman).

Sayang, I missed your call this morning, bro. I tried to call you back but you probably left the building already…

I agree with lamlam-ek, may everyone’s good deeds be an example for all. Even though the actual canvassing hasn’t yet ended, I think ALL the Reyna candidates are already winners. They’ve shown great sportsmanship, grace and benevolence just by their participation in our first Sison popularity contest that’s initiated by our Mayor Kimi Cojuangco. I know that this event will only get better in the years to come…CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE!

Magnanimous! Marvelous! ETC ETC! Thanks for Apo Congressman for doing such fair move. That makes us all enthusiastic to help more and ask our relatives friends’ help for the realization of these projects. To think I was telling Aunt Tess yesterday that it would be hard for her to compete with the local candidate and for her to stop wishing to be at the top 3 at least, now we are seeing new hope. Thanks for Mrs. Palit-ang for being brave to comment on that issue. (Maybe, Apo Palit-ang, you would prove to be the most generous Saguntonian too by sharing some amount to our other barrio candidate, Lola Tessie? hehehe. ) I understand that Apo Congressman was so eager to be a part of the fundraising campaign…and lately, what a good twist of luck for all the candidates…Thank you for loving all the candidates and the barrios.

May we clarify the issue on the donation of the share of the candidates to the Barangay. In London, Lola Tessie did not mention any of her share going directly to the Barangay Council. It’s up to her and the decision should come directly from the candidates themselves or from the horse’s mouth. Remember my friends that there are expenses to meet such as: siyempre agpartin to met isuna ti baka, lion wenno kalding ket awisen nan to met ti amin nga tao nga kayatna ti umay, hire ti paglugananna nga agparada, bado na ken dadduma pay, etc. etc. of course tumulong to met ti Baryo a ngem sabali nga project ti aramidenna. Isu nga pagpasensiayaan tay la aminen apo tapnon makorekta daytoy intay pal-palakpakan ditoy abong tatta. Damagen tay to la kanianan no Sumangpet intono December 9 ti husto nga plano na. Ni Lola Tessie ket very generous isuna ket ammok nga dina met lipatan ti Baryo nga nakayanakan na.

Thanks Truerep for your reminder. True, Aunt Tess is very generous …keep clapping ,my dear, as she herself told me her plan (Yes, the horse herself talked to me :-) )to use much of her share for the completion of their SFAL project for Sagunto, one of which is the community library. She did mention to deduct some expenses though. How much? You said that it’s up to her. Correct! But she really wanted that the bigger amount goes to the barrio. If you are an SFAL member, you must have heard about that already or will hear soon…the money will be donated to the barrio (wait for their official announcement of course) thru SFAL initiative projects. Oh maybe I shouldn’t be telling this here yet, but I’m just so happy to hear from her. They wish to use big part of that candidate share for the good of Sagunto. We should support this kind of gesture really, contribute whatever we can as everything will be for the good of the many. I myself will see to it that that promise is realized and will make a follow-up on her that it happens. Because of the barrio benefits too, I am helping a lot more. Ahermmn, have you given your share of even a bit friend Truerep? Well, thank you for your support. Thanks also to those who willingly and unconditionally donated. Mabuhay kayo amin! Mabuhay kayo amin nga kandidata!
