One of the initiatives being planned in Sison is the Reyna and Lola Ko pageant to be held during the Sison Town Fiesta in December of this year. The new Sison administration has been busy cleaning up the town, literally, and this event will help further that goal. For the 2007 Sison Town Fiesta, candidates from expatriates worldwide are being recruited to help in this fundraising effort. The premise is to have a candidate representing expatriates in their respective countries countries (Mrs. USA, Mrs. UK, Mrs. Australia, Mrs. Dubai, etc.). Sisonians living in each region should rally to sponsor their candidate for this popularity contest. The contestant who raises the most funds will be crowned Reyna and Lola Ko during the Town Fiesta.
To qualify as a candidate, one must be a grandmother, regardless of age. This lola should rally other ‘kailyans’ in her region to sponsor her for this event, and collect donations.
The funds collected from this event will be used to improve the town hall in Sison. Plans are in the works for possibly building a community hall which can hold events indoors. Money collected during the Reyna ang Lola Ko initiative will be broken down so that the candidate will not shoulder the cost of participating solely. The breakdown of percentages going to the candidate and the committee is outlined in the letter below from the Sison Town Fiesta Executive Committee.

Hello Evz and all Sisonians abroad. Thank you for your concern and part in making our town festivity become a success through your voluntary efforts. With regards to the canvassing schedule, the executive committee has not yet come into an agreement when will be the first and the last but diffinitely we will update you immediately after our meeting tomorrow.
Our town fiesta will be held on December 14, 15 and 16, 2007. The coronation night will be on the 16th.

Hello everybody, my wife and I are very thankful for your messages and acknowledgement. I would like to introduce my wife Juliet, who also belongs to one of our native tribes, she is a half kankanaey and half chinese from Baguio City, recently because of her willingness to help out in the new administration brought by Mayor Kimi’s enthusiasm, she was appointed as the Executive Assistant to the mayor. She is also one of the working committee chairman for the Town Fiesta and as the committee chairman for the program, on october 6, 2007 she went to Macau to ask for the cooperation of our fellow Sisonians thru advertisement for the souvenir program and was successful enough to get many commitments from them and thanx for the cooperation of Mr. Tony Sawadan and Mrs. Tessie Haban and Millares family who have attended to her needs and for their warm accomodations. The following day she went to Hong Kong for the scheduled meeting regarding the “ang lola kong Reyna” candidate and it was a suceess that thru the initiatives of our coordinators in the person of Dunstan Baiguen and Arnold Paliwen they were able to convince Mrs Leonor Garcia of Esperanza, Sison, Pangasinan.

Basically, fundraising campaigns are a rigorous matter. They involve difficulties, barriers, pride, successes, failures, joy and laughter. Popularity Contests are no exception. It’s a part of Sison tradition too. Who has not experienced being crowned as princess or queen here? We are thankful that lots of effort are now being done for the real improvement of our town, and we are sincerely expressing support and appreciation to all these good undertakings. I am posting my personal opinion here now regarding this Reyna ang Lola Ko Contest for the primary reason that I SUPPORT THIS FUNDRAISING IDEA, for we love our town,and we love our Lola. I have just a few suggestions not for this year’s event for the next years of similar popularity contests. Would it be possible to consider these factors as well in the future?
) Bottomline…give them more time.
1. Plan way in advance to give target respondents/candidates time to give and get feedback, response, approval, and share their suggestions and raise money. We can raise more if we have at least 4 months; in the past, 12 months were enough to gather support.
2. Be clear with the other aspects of the campaign apart from financial targets for a building project. What other specific targets does the activity aim? Social? Religious? Cultural? Tribal/Family values?
3. Consider other association or clubs’ projects, as our projects may appear very similar to what the other entities plan. ( Didn’t I hear earlier that SUKA wished for a similar campaign for Sagunto fiesta in 2008?)
4. Be more understanding to the limitations of workers abroad as times have changed and overseas jobs have become tougher and tougher, and so, Balikbayans can’t have instant big money and do magic every time. (Well, with the exception of the chosen candidates maybe
5. Create activities that would strengthen barrio unity and cooperation, not division or clannishness.
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m still doing my best to raise $$$ for our candidate as we love her so much. I just wish that we could have enough travel fare ,or plane seats left to go home and see the wonderful events you’ve prepared for everyone. Goodluck to all.

Yap I agree with sis Emz that is why I salute all the Candidates four of them as it was officially announced by the committee on popularity contest in Sison ang “Lola kung Reyna” who accepted the challenge they know and understand the hardship of the contest they have accepted but they did not think of that since they are after the welfare and love of our town inspite of so many issues coming out…So please let us just give them the support we could give let us make them strong and pra for them.

She may have some weaknesses and shortcomings as other real persons, but hey, I’ve known how she worked so hard and co-organized lots of your socio-civic projects there in Sagunto UK for a long long time. She is always enthusiastic, sociable and a firm believer of civic action, your kind of a candidate! And where else could you find a Sagunto candidate who’s been a beauty contest winner in Miss Philippines -United Kingdom 1974?
