Online newsletter for the citizens of Sagunto, Sison, Pangasinan, Philippines
I had almost forgotten about these photos of the reunion last April. My apologies for the late posting.

These photos were taken during the Balan-eg Family reunion in Pinalpal, a small barangay just below the NCC plant, north of Labayug. There isn’t a paved road yet going to Pinalpal, family members got there by traveling along a river bed in off-road vehicles.
Our Lola Angela Castillo is a Balan-eg, a cousin of the Balan-egs of Labayug. So some of the Castillo family in Sagunto are related to this clan and attended the festivities last April, 2007. Attendees came from as far as Ilocos Sur. The next reunion will be on Holy Wednesday, 2008, in San Emilio,Ilocos Sur. If you are related to this clan, start planning.

Nette, I’ve read the news on UN Declaration on Indigenous Peoples. Why don’t we put a link to the article here? I am glad there’s now a long list of tribal rights! Hurray to Indigenous Peoples!
I think we should also put Palit-ang to Lola Angela’s name. When her husband Mr. Castillo died, she married Mr. Palit-ang. I’m sorry that I can’t share my recent incomplete research yet on “how big” Balan-eg clan is.
Hello Bill Bilig! Do you have any literature on surnames with dashes like Balan-eg, Palit-ang,
Gat-eb, etc? They sound very native.
Aren’t you proud you have a “native” blood?
nice nice actually one of my uncle son of lolo Ireneo Quilaman is in the NAtional Office of Cultufral Communities ket napintas ta you are doing a research no ania ti naggapuan yo puli am doing researches also ngem narigat ta its complicated but this is a good start for you mga sis and take note the claim of ancestral domain should be implimented by the gov’t. we have the right claim it.
Hi Emz, that is what I was thinking too! I think we will start posting some articles that concern indigenous peoples. We need to start spreading the pride too
not just the love. hehe!
ay evs, you should contact your cousin for some info then….maybe he will have something to share.
Nette and Evs, and how about the book that we want written on the Origin of Saguntonians? When I get home again, I’ll gather as many stories of the olds narrating their early lives in the community. I had a few from our close relatives of course, and last August, Aunt Emma told us about her memories of her late mother (she looked like Aunt Emma, Gat-eb face) and how difficult their lives were planting and pounding rice without modern technology. Her Mom was sick and became worse because of hard work. Let us remind our young people of the golden qualities, sacrifices, joys and laughter our sagunto ancestors. I want new generations to see the past through essays and short stories. Proceeds of the book goes to the barrio library. Any comment? When do we start?
yap right emz and nette we need to start right away ta ni agpukpukaw dan dagitoy babbaket ken lallakay tayo
I saw the Balan-eg clan reunion you posted and it just surprised me because my maiden name is Balan-eg and and I know that we have close relatives there in Labayug and Kalunutan,we’ve been there when I was young and my late mother Christina used to go there when she’s still alive .I’ve been to Sagunto a few times.I stayed at the Madarang”s house.Hey,Linden ag-email kaman.I know you’re here in California.I’d be happy if any of my relatives in Labayug will contact me. my e-mail address: cowgirlsboot@yahoo.com.Thank you Sagunto star and to the good people of Sagunto.

That was back 1985-86.Like the Pis-o family,Madarang Linden (pls extend my regards to her),I know Sharon Castillo and husband,Roselee,Mng. Jenny Pis-o and sister,Joyce Dagacan,Manong Mando,Norma and Lisa Palit-ang from Agat and the Orencia brothers,Anna Balangue and a lot,lot more.We all use to live at the Pis-o Residence in Baguio.Anyway, your website is so great.I admire the people of Sagunto, the effort they do to help there place,it’s like one happy family.Btw,so you said you are Bae Angela’s (my nickname too) great grand iha-so we must be related.I grew up in Tabuk near Casigayan.Cheers to Bago.
Hi Angie!
Yeah, we probably are related, hehehe. My younger daughter is named after Bae Angela, we also call her Angie. Great coincidence, no? My sisters and I lived in Baguio while growing up and spent our last year with Lola Dora and Lolo Ireneo in Sagunto. We left Sagunto in 1976. Most of the names you mention are regulars in our virtual abong, you’ll probably catch them on the chatango room or can hook-up with them if you click on the SAGUNTONIANS tab on this site. I hope you will continue to come visit and hopefully be a regular too
Yeah, cheers to Bago!
