The Mayor also addressed her environmental/Green policy. She said that one of her main projects is to ensure that Sison remain an Agricultural town. She doesn’t want another Dagupan where there’s traffic and over building of businesses. She wants Sison to grow but to grow smart AND retain the natural charm that all Sisonians appreciate. She wants to make Sison an ecological destination without ruining the environment. She is in the process of hiring a consultant to do a feasibility study to ensure proper development of the town that will ensure a balance with nature. I asked the Mayor about any NCC plans of extending the cement factory into the neighboring barangays? What is her husband’s company doing about the environment and fixing the mountain in Labayug? The mayor states that there are no plans of extending NCC. She said she understands the question and doesn’t want to be hypocritical and say that her husband is environmentally correct—the business is not, look at that mountain, she says, it’s a big hole! Yes, I looked already…then she added that the company IS doing something about the problem. The company has started planting trees to replace the damaged land. It will not be fixed overnight but they are doing something to start fixing the problem. She has raised the taxes that NCC pays to Sison!
Well, I say, what about the rumors that you are going to be taking land from people to widen the roads towards the mountain? Her answers is, to get the produce from farmers to market, you will need trucks to move the goods. At this time, the roads are so narrow that 2 tricycles can’t pass each other without one getting stuck, what more for produce trucks? It is a danger to children and other pedestrians for the roads to be so narrow. Also, the mayor has brought in two brand new garbage dumpsters to start cleaning up the barangays so trash is not piling up into rivers and hills. These trucks will not be able to get by some roads in most barangays if the roads remain the way they are.
She said that she is currently working on a trash collection schedule for the barangays and want to push a recycling program/educational blitz for the people. She wants them to sort their garbage before putting them out for collection. Then I ask where all this trash is going to go. Mayor’s answer is for short-term and long-term. The short term solution is to dig a deep enough land fill in ex-Mayor Lagmay’s land. That is where the trash will be treated and buried—short term. The long term plan is to buy a piece of land with 4 other Municipalities to create a centralized sanitary dump site outside of Sison. This plan is already in the works with the other three mayors in agreement.

I salute the sincere dedication of our Local Chief Executive as Am so concerned with the Green Environment program of the town it does not matter if she will include it in the Agricultural Program or what as long as it was included in the agenda.
And this is the main thing we have been waiting for– their current stand on whether to expand or not to expand NCC…that was the question. BUT LUCKILY LIKE WHAT GOD HAS WANTED , HE MADE THE LOVELY MAYOR EXPRESS THEIR/ OUR WISHES, THAT SISON WOULD AGAIN BE PUT TO ORDER AND BE SAVED, and that no NCC plan or further degradation whatsoever but genuine progress this time, preservation and improvement of the environment would prevail.So what are you waiting for? Hugs and kisses for the new mayor!
Let us join hands with her to uphold these wishes and help make all her dreams for our town realized. These things are wonderful, indeed! See, if you don’t ask, they won’t answer, and you’ll never know; if you don’t knock, they won’t open their doors for you.

Amen to that, sis Evz & Emz! Part 4 pretty much concludes the entire meeting with Mayor Conjuangco. As I said before, there were quite a lot of areas that the Mayor covered prior to and during the meeting with the group of Sisonians. She is still hard at work with her US/Asian tour. Though she might be completely exhausted from her hectic schedule, I think it is safe to say that she has, indeed, done a great job of addressing most or all of our concerns. By coming abroad to meet her constituents in California, she has done a GREAT service to the town by earning the respect and support of those who met her. She came to explain her platform and her plans for the future of Sison and I think she exceeded most everyone’s expectations.
If even half the plans she spoke about come into fruition during her tenure, she would surpass the records of the previous administration. That, to me, would be a pretty good record to follow.
Mayor Cojuangco does read the Sagunto Star to get the pulse of her constituency and she can take constructive criticisms and well thought-out suggestions, so please feel free to comment away

Ti PRIORITY PROJECTS ni Apo Mayora ket Agriculture, Health and Education, isu nga dayta problema gapu ti droga ket talaga nga kadwa. She has soooo many plans in the works right now to address the ills of the town. What we need to do to help her is MONEY (of course! PAY YOUR TAXES, nyahahaha!), PATIENCE AND TIME. There are negatives that we all face as a town (bankruptcy comes to mind), but we also have many positives. We are lucky that she has decided to take on this problem and to improve our hometown. With their governmental connections, they are in better position to get aide for our town. I think we can finally see some glimmering light at the end of the tunnel. Don’t you agree? Let’s wait and see…

Is NCC really paying local taxes? I doubt it. All I know since NCC was built in did never pay their taxes to Sison. Please………….We need to find out if they really pay thier share.

Thanks, ESQ but actually, without our very own Jeanette (my ever so patient and wonderful big sister!), we wouldn’t have this site up and running…she does ALL the technical maintenance, up-keep, clean-up, editing, mediating, baby-sitting (hehehe) and writing. She’s the one who deserves kudos! I came up with the idea of connecting Sison with the outside world via the web and she’s the one who created the bridge where we now stand. So from all of us who have benefited from the web site by reconnecting and making NEW connections, Thank YOU sister Nette for reviving the NEW SAGUNTO STAR!

But seriously, this virtual abong that we call Sagunto Star has really been a spiritual blessing to so many of us, and not just people from Sagunto but the entire Sison and all the hardworking OFWs from our town. Not all the OFWs are lucky enough to be with other kababayans in one place or close by like the Londoners. Some are so isolated from anything Pilipino that the homesickness is heart wrenchingly difficult to bear. This abong of ours fills a void. It helps us feel close to what is going on in the place we care about; it connects us with people whom we haven’t seen in ages; it makes us all feel like we DO belong somewhere where people care of what we think, feel, look like, etc. This abong reaches across the oceans and with a click of a mouse we are, once again home. So it’s not just Nette, me, Eva or Emmy. It is ALL of you katribu, kababayans, ka-ilians who come here and have made this abong interesting, readable, laughable, and claimed it as your own that make this web site a success.
