This is the first of a series of lectures planned to promote and to educate about tribal instruments and dance. This first lecture was initiated and sponsored by the CYAF and Emily Benosa Homma.
The guest speaker for this event is Mr. Onofre Sungay.
Emily says,
“I think we were lucky to have Onofre Sunggay as speaker for… who knows, he could be somewhere else in UK land soon, unreachable then for any seminar like this.
The CYAF I am advising agreed it was a good start to have constant cultural/educational activities like this as our tradition is dying out unnoticed.
I’ll write a longer report of the community events I witnessed on another page later. “
Thank you to Irene Culbengan for sharing the photos, and to Jocy Quilaman and Eva Santillano for forwarding to the Sagunto Star.

September will be here soon, don’t forget to send names of birthday celebrants you’d like to greet on the Sagunto Star.
You can also submit names of Saguntonians, their birthdate, location, and affiliation in advance so we can start compiling a list of birtdays to publish here.

FROM ROSELEE B. MACAALAY: “This is my niece Gabrielle Juliana Whitear Yan who will be christened on the 12th of August 2007. She’s the daughter of my cousin Sharon and my auntie Merelina’s first grandaughter.”
My apologies for the late posting. I thought I would be able to get on the internet while on vacation. I even brought my laptop with me, but no luck. Am just having too much fun and been too busy. We’ll be back on regular programming in a couple of days. ~ jeanette

This request is from SK President Arlene Paliwen to solicit donations to fund a basketball league and Halloween Party. The Halloween Party has become a tradition in Sagunto as well as the basketball league, and is widely anticipated by everyone, young and old. The SK’s term is also ending around October, so this will be one of their final projects. They ask all of us Saguntonians abroad to help them with funding some of the many expenses that will be incurred in putting this event together.
If you would like to donate, contact Arlene at paliwen@gmail.com or us at saguntophotos@gmail.com and we will give you the account number to the SK’s dollar account. You can also direct your questions to either of the email addresses provided.
If you would rather mail your donations directly, the SK’s mailing address is on the letter below.

For the first real post on this new site, I thought we should go back to the original Sagunto Star. Let’s continue the series of pages on Volume 2 issued on June/July of 1984. If anyone else has other issues of the first Sagunto Star, please let me know.
